Ethernet Remote I/O for Industrial Automation
Modbus TCP is a client-server protocol based on Ethernet, widely used in industrial applications for transferring data between field devices, I/O modules, PLCs, industrial computers and supervisory systems.
ICP DAS Ethernet I/O modules enable inputs and outputs to be distributed throughout an installation, reducing the need to route every signal directly back to the central controller.
Sensors and actuators can therefore be installed close to the measurement or control point, with their data transmitted over the Ethernet network.
Advantages of ICP DAS Modbus TCP Modules
• Direct integration into industrial Ethernet networks.
• Support for digital inputs and outputs.
• Support for analog signals.
• Models with relay outputs.
• Versions with PoE power supply.
• Models with two Ethernet ports and Daisy Chain.
• DIN rail mounting and wall-mounting options.
• Integration with PLC, SCADA, BMS and data acquisition systems.
• Distributed installation close to sensors and actuators.
• Advanced safety and automation functions available on selected series.
Main Ethernet I/O Series for Modbus TCP
ICP DAS offers several Ethernet I/O product families, allowing the appropriate architecture to be selected according to communication, power supply and network topology requirements.
ET-7000 Series
Communication: Ethernet / Modbus TCP
Standard series with one LAN port for Ethernet Remote I/O applications.
PET-7000 Series
Communication: Ethernet / Modbus TCP / PoE
Remote I/O with power supplied through the Ethernet connection on compatible models.
ET-7200 Series
Communication: Modbus TCP / 2× LAN
Two Ethernet ports for Daisy Chain connections and simplified network cabling.
PET-7200 Series
Communication: Modbus TCP / PoE / 2× LAN
Combines PoE power supply with a two-port Ethernet architecture.
ET-2200 Series
Communication: Ethernet / 2× LAN
Compact, slim series with two LAN ports for Daisy Chain installations.
tET Series
Communication: Ethernet
Compact modules designed for straightforward applications and installations where space is limited.
tPET Series
Communication: Ethernet / PoE
Compact versions with PoE power supply on compatible models.
Digital and Analog Inputs and Outputs
The Modbus TCP range provides different combinations of inputs and outputs, allowing the module to be selected according to the signals required by the application.
Digital Input – DI
Contacts, digital sensors, limit switches, alarms and machine status signals.
Digital Output – DO
Control of actuators, signalling devices and digital equipment.
Analog Input – AI
Acquisition of voltage, mV, current and various industrial sensor signals.
Analog Output – AO
Analog signals for equipment control and regulation.
Relay Output – RO
Load switching through relay contacts.
Temperature Inputs
Selected models allow direct connection of thermocouples, Pt100 and Pt1000 sensors.
Strain Gauge
Input modules are available for strain gauge applications.
Daisy Chain – Reduced Cabling Requirements
Modules equipped with two Ethernet ports can support a Daisy Chain architecture, where devices are connected sequentially.
This configuration can reduce the amount of cabling required compared with a traditional star topology and simplify the implementation of distributed systems.
PoE – Power and Data over Ethernet
PET and tPET versions, depending on the model, provide Power over Ethernet (PoE).
PoE can significantly simplify installation by allowing the Ethernet infrastructure to be used for both communication and module power.
Advanced Functions Available
Depending on the series and model, ICP DAS Ethernet I/O modules can provide additional functions designed to improve system availability and operational safety.
Daisy Chain
Enables line topology through two Ethernet ports, reducing the need for star-network cabling.
LAN Bypass
On compatible equipment, helps maintain network communication continuity if a module loses power or fails.
I/O Pair Connection
Allows a digital input on one compatible module to be directly mirrored to a digital output on another compatible module.
Power-On Value
Allows the output state to be configured during startup.
Safe Value
Allows safe output states to be defined in the event of a communication failure.
Installation in Electrical Panels and Distributed Systems
The Modbus TCP modules in the range are designed for DIN rail mounting, making integration into electrical panels and automation systems straightforward.
The manufacturer also indicates the possibility of wall mounting, providing greater flexibility for applications where a DIN rail is not available.

FAQ – Ethernet I/O Modules for Modbus TCP
What is Modbus TCP?
Modbus TCP is an implementation of the Modbus protocol over Ethernet TCP/IP networks, enabling data exchange between industrial devices over an IP network.
What types of signals can be connected?
The range includes modules for digital and analog signals, relays and, depending on the model, direct connection of voltage, mV, mA, thermocouples, Pt100, Pt1000 and strain gauges.
What is the difference between ET and PET?
PET series include models with PoE support, allowing the module to be powered through the Ethernet infrastructure, while the exact configuration depends on the selected model.
What is Daisy Chain?
Daisy Chain is a topology that allows multiple devices to be connected sequentially using modules with two Ethernet ports, reducing the need for switches or star-topology cabling.
What happens to the outputs if communication fails?
Selected models allow Safe Values to be configured, defining the state that outputs should assume in the event of a communication failure.
Are PoE modules available?
Yes. ICP DAS offers models with PoE support, particularly within the PET and tPET families.
Are modules with two Ethernet ports available?
Yes. The ET-7200, PET-7200 and ET-2200 families include two-port Ethernet solutions intended, among other applications, for Daisy Chain topologies.
