A hygrometer is an instrument used for measuring the moisture content in the atmosphere. Humidity measurement instruments usually rely on measurements of some other quantity such as temperature, pressure, mass or a mechanical or electrical change in a substance as moisture is absorbed. By calibration and calculation, these measured quantities can lead to a measurement of humidity. Modern electronic devices use temperature of condensation (the dew point), or changes in electrical capacitance or resistance to measure humidity differences.

    Our food moisture meter offers fast and reliable nondestructive measurements of the water content of various food products.

    Humidity, or water content, of a food is one of the most important and most evaluated indices in food. It is of great importance for reflecting the solids content of a product, for interfering in its stability (chemical, biochemical and microbiological reactions) and in its texture.

    Usually the amount of water in the food is expressed by the value of determining the total water contained in the food. However, this value does not provide information on how water is distributed in the food, nor does it allow to know if all the water is similarly connected to the food. Different types of food with the same water content differ in their stability or shelf life (shelf life).

    The importance of measuring moisture in compost.

    The humidity of the compost pile has a direct effect on the activity of microorganisms and indirectly on the temperature it reaches. The humidity considered to be optimal varies depending on the materials to be composted, although the bibliography points to reasonable values in the range of 40 to 65% and the ideal is between 50-60%. Above these values, there is a slower decomposition, anaerobic conditions, bad odors and nutrient leaching. If the moisture content drops below 40%, the pile becomes too dry for microbial activity.     Since the temperature reached is high, it is normal for evaporation to occur and, as a result, it may be necessary to moisten the battery frequently.
