The humidity of the compost pile has a direct effect on the activity of microorganisms and indirectly on the temperature it reaches. The humidity considered to be optimal varies depending on the materials to be composted, although the bibliography points to reasonable values in the range of 40 to 65% and the ideal is between 50-60%.
