What is a Transmitter?

A transmitter is a device that converts a physical quantity (such as temperature, pressure, or position) into a standard signal (usually electrical or digital), enabling remote monitoring, control, or data logging.

It is an essential component in automation, instrumentation, and telecommunications systems.

General Operation

1. Primary sensor: detects the physical variable (e.g., thermocouple for temperature).
2. Transducer: converts the variable into a proportional electrical signal.
3. Signal conditioning: amplification, filtering, etc.
4. Final conversion: to a standardized signal (e.g., 4-20 mA, 0-10 V, digital).
5. Transmission: to a controller, logger, or SCADA system.
