Early detection of water leaks and conductive liquids
Reference: 600418 | Brand: HW group | Warranty: 24 months
The WLD-Sensing Cable A is a professional sensing cable designed for the early detection of water leaks and other conductive liquids. Unlike point flood detectors, it detects liquid along its entire length, providing continuous protection in data centres, technical rooms, industrial facilities, warehouses and other areas where water leakage may cause significant damage.
2 metres – detection along the entire cable length
Early detection – sensitive to small amounts of conductive liquid
Flexible and reusable – simplified installation and maintenance
Up to 85 m of sensing cable per zone, depending on the WLD device used
Compatible with WLD2, SD-WLD, NB-WLD, WLD Relay and Perseus
The cable can be installed under raised floors, along walls, around pipes, in drip trays or close to air-conditioning systems. This makes it possible to protect large or difficult-to-access areas where a single point detector may fail to identify a leak at an early stage.
Its high sensitivity allows the detection of even small amounts of conductive liquid. When connected to a compatible WLD monitoring device, the detection event can trigger an alarm, helping users react early and reduce the risk of damage to equipment, stored goods and infrastructure.
The sensing cable is designed for long-term use and offers high resistance to movement, twisting and localised pressure under normal installation conditions. After a leak event, it can be cleaned, dried and reused, provided it has not been mechanically damaged.
Because it creates a continuous detection zone in areas where the presence of water could cause significant damage, providing much broader coverage than a detector that monitors only a single point.
Detection takes place along the complete length of the sensing cable, making it possible to identify a leak even when the water appears far from the monitoring device. Only a small amount of conductive liquid may be required to trigger an alarm.
The WLD Type A sensing cable is not restricted by a defined bending radius. It can be bent, twisted and adapted to the installation route while retaining its functionality. This simplifies installation in confined spaces, around pipes and along irregular routes.
Detection functionality is not limited by localised pressure within reasonable operating conditions. The cable can be stepped on or pressed during normal installation without those mechanical effects necessarily causing false alarms. It can also be routed under a door threshold.
After detecting a leak, the sensing cable can be cleaned and dried. Provided it has not been damaged, it can be returned to service, helping reduce the long-term maintenance costs of the WLD system.
The sensing cable can be installed even after other electrical cabling has already been fitted and does not require specialised training. Combining sensing sections with non-sensing extension cables allows the sensing cable to be concentrated only in the areas where leakage is most likely, helping optimise installation costs.
A WLD system uses a sensing cable to detect the presence of conductive liquid and a compatible monitoring device to interpret the status of the WLD zone and communicate alarms when required.
The WLD system can distinguish three detection states:
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| 0 – OK | No conductive liquid detected. |
| 1 – Flooded | Water or another conductive liquid has been detected. |
| 2 – Disconnected | The sensing cable has been disconnected or interrupted. |
A detected leak can be communicated through the functions available in the connected WLD device, including local alarms, email, SNMP or integration with a remote monitoring portal, depending on the system used.
A WLD installation can combine sensing cable sections and non-sensing extension cables to match the physical layout of the areas requiring protection.
The maximum sensing cable length within one zone is 85 metres. By combining sensing cable with non-sensing extension cable, the overall zone can reach up to 185 metres, depending on the connected WLD device. For the NB-WLD, the specified total limit is 60 metres.
A terminator is required at the end of the WLD zone. The terminator is included with the appropriate WLD connection cable.
The WLD-Sensing Cable A can be used with HW group devices equipped with a compatible WLD input, including:
When integrated into the HW group ecosystem and platforms based on SensDesk Technology, the complete monitoring system can provide remote alarms, graphs, PDF reports, centralised management and open integration interfaces, depending on the connected hardware and service plan.

Reference 600418 identifies the 2 m WLD-Sensing Cable A.
The sensing cable does not operate as a standalone alarm system. A complete installation requires a compatible WLD monitoring device, together with the appropriate connection cable and zone terminator. These components must be selected according to the required WLD configuration.
The WLD-Sensing Cable A is part of the wider HW group monitoring ecosystem, which includes solutions for early water leak detection, infrastructure protection, environmental monitoring and remote supervision of critical facilities. The following application examples and case studies illustrate how HW group technologies can be deployed in different sectors.
Note: the solutions listed above belong to the broader HW group portfolio and may involve different sensors, detectors, monitoring devices and services. The WLD-Sensing Cable A itself is specifically intended for the detection of water and other electrically conductive liquids. Other monitoring functions require the corresponding compatible hardware.
The cable detects water and other electrically conductive liquids, such as ethylene glycol, at any point along its sensing length.
A point flood detector only detects water at the specific location where the detector is installed. A WLD sensing cable detects liquid along its entire length and can therefore monitor a much larger area.
No. The cable must be connected to a compatible WLD monitoring device that interprets the zone status and handles alarms or external communication.
The sensing cable itself can reach up to 85 metres per zone. By using non-sensing extension sections, the overall zone length can reach up to 185 metres, depending on the monitoring device. The specified limit for NB-WLD is 60 metres.
Yes. The cable can be cleaned, dried and reused, provided it has not suffered physical damage that could affect operation.
Yes. It can be installed under raised floors, along walls, around pipes and in other areas where water leakage may occur.
The WLD-Sensing Cable A is designed to tolerate normal movement, twisting and localised pressure. Small movements caused by surrounding cables are not intended to trigger false alarms.
The cable can be used with compatible HW group systems including WLD2, SD-WLD, NB-WLD, WLD Relay 1W-UNI and Perseus models equipped with an appropriate WLD interface. Cable-length limits and alarm capabilities depend on the selected device.
The WLD-Sensing Cable A enables continuous leak-detection solutions for data centres, technical rooms, industrial facilities, warehouses and other environments where water may threaten equipment or infrastructure.
