Formaldehyde Meter PCE-VOC 1

Featuring a large, easy-to-read display and simple operation via three buttons, the PCE-VOC 1 allows fast and intuitive use. When critical concentration levels are reached, the meter alerts the user with a red backlit screen and an audible alarm for both TVOC and HCHO thresholds.

Measurement readings can be displayed in either mg/m³ or ppm. The device includes a built-in rechargeable lithium polymer battery that ensures several hours of operation, and it can be recharged using the included power supply.

What are VOCs?

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are organic gases or vapors found in the air, including hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, and organic acids. These can originate from both natural processes and human activity such as combustion, industrial production, building materials, paints, adhesives, and cleaning products.

Sources and emission

VOCs are released when solvents or fuels evaporate, or from solid materials that emit compounds over time. Emissions may come from a product’s surface or interior (material off-gassing). Even natural materials such as wood can emit VOCs like terpenes.

Health effects

While typically present in low concentrations, high VOC levels especially after renovations or misuse of products can cause odor nuisance, irritation, and even chronic health effects, including toxicity or cancer risk. Preventive measures should always be taken to limit exposure.

Reducing exposure

Choose low-emission products certified by eco-labels and ensure adequate indoor ventilation. If health symptoms persist or contamination is suspected, professional evaluation is recommended to identify and address the VOC source effectively.
