Description

The MTG8 is the top-of-the-range gauge, providing all the features and capabilities required for accurate thickness and velocity measurement on virtually any material, across a wide variety of applications.

In addition to all the features found on the MTG2, MTG4 and MTG6 models, the MTG8 allows users to store up to three separate calibrations in memory. Once saved, each calibration can be selected without the need to re-calibrate the instrument — ideal for operators measuring different materials or thickness ranges. Calibration files can also be renamed for easy identification.

The MTG8 offers fully user-definable upper and lower limits, complete with audible and visual pass/fail warnings. If a reading falls outside the defined limits, the measurement value and limit icon turn red, the red LED flashes and an alarm sounds, providing immediate indication of out-of-tolerance areas.

In Differential Mode, a nominal thickness value can be set, enabling the gauge to display both the measured thickness and its deviation from the nominal value, clearly highlighting any thinner or thicker regions.

The MTG8 also features B-Scan, a time-based, two-dimensional cross-sectional graphical representation of the test material, ideal for relative depth analysis. The B-Scan zoom level may be set automatically or manually adjusted to focus on specific areas of interest.

The instrument can store up to 100,000 readings in as many as 1,000 sequential or grid-type batches. In grid mode, readings are arranged in a spreadsheet-style format. The Obst function allows users to record obstructions within the grid.

Fully compatible with ElcoMaster® for PC and mobile devices, readings can be downloaded via USB or Bluetooth® to PC, iOS or Android™ for further analysis and comprehensive reporting.

The Elcometer MTG8 material thickness gauge complies with the following standards:

ASTM E797
EN 14127
EN15317

Why Choose the MTG Range

  • Smart: configurable pass/fail limits (audible and visual alerts) per reading or per batch.
  • Accurate: multiple calibration options (Zero, 1-Point, 2-Point, pre-defined materials) and an integrated zero disk.
  • Versatile: measures uncoated and coated surfaces using the Echo Echo ThruPaint™ mode up to 2 mm.
  • Productive: Scan Mode up to 16 Hz, storage for up to 100,000 readings (MTG8) and USB/Bluetooth® connectivity with ElcoMaster®.
  • Robust: impact-, dust- and splash-resistant construction (equivalent to IP64) with a 2.4" TFT display.
  • Connected: USB/Bluetooth® to ElcoMaster® (PC, iOS & Android) — for professional analysis and reporting.

Typical Applications

Pipe and tank inspection, corrosion monitoring, metal structures, composites, plastics and engineering materials, through-coating thickness verification, industrial maintenance, oil & gas, automotive, marine and energy sectors.
