Key benefits

It collects data from electricity, gas and water meters, as well as from analog sensors and MODBUS RTU devices, and provides powerful logging and visualization via a built-in web interface.

  • Centralized energy and resource monitoring – connect multiple meters and sensors to a single compact device.
  • Galvanic isolation – robust operation and protection against electrical noise in harsh industrial environments.
  • Rich connectivity – Ethernet, MODBUS RTU, MODBUS TCP/IP, SNMP and MQTT 3.1.1 for seamless SCADA and BMS integration.
  • Up to 24 configurable channels – discrete, general or cumulative channels for energy, flow, temperature and other key parameters.
  • Up to 24 independent alarms – flexible alarm states with hysteresis and graphical indication for early fault detection.
  • On-board data logger – stores up to 70,000 records for audits, reporting and long-term analysis.
  • DIN rail mountable – easy installation inside electrical panels and industrial cabinets.
  • Wide supply voltage range – reliable operation in a variety of sites and power conditions.

Functional overview

The TCW260 energy monitoring module features 4 S0-compatible digital inputs and 6 analog inputs, plus a fully isolated RS-485 MODBUS RTU interface. The digital inputs can be used to connect up to 4 energy meters with S0 pulse outputs or general purpose dry-contact (ON/OFF) sensors. The analog inputs operate either in voltage mode (0/10 V) or current loop mode (0/20 mA), enabling connection of a wide range of transducers (voltage, current, pressure, temperature, flow, etc.).

Over the RS-485 port, the TCW260 supports up to 24 MODBUS RTU registers/devices, including Teracom and third-party sensors. All primary parameters – digital inputs, analog inputs and MODBUS registers – can be combined into up to 24 monitoring channels, which can be defined as:

  • Discrete channels – for OPEN/CLOSED status and dry-contact monitoring.
  • General channels – for instantaneous measurements such as current, voltage, temperature or flow.
  • Cumulative channels – for totalized values such as energy, volume or consumption.

Each channel can be associated with independent alarms. The TCW260 supports up to 24 alarms, every alarm having up to two thresholds, hysteresis and a user-selectable state. When an alarm is active, the corresponding channel is highlighted on the monitoring page and in the trend graphs.

M2M communication and integration

The TCW260 has been engineered for easy machine-to-machine (M2M) integration in modern energy monitoring and industrial automation systems. It supports several widely used protocols over Ethernet:

  • SNMPv2 and SNMPv3 with SNMP trap sending on alarm conditions.
  • Embedded HTTP/HTTPS server with secure, password-protected configuration and control.
  • MODBUS TCP/IP – straightforward MODBUS RTU to MODBUS TCP gateway functionality.
  • MQTT 3.1.1 – ideal for IoT platforms and cloud-based energy management systems.
  • Periodic HTTP/HTTPS POST of XML/JSON status files to client-server applications.
  • SMTP with SSL/TLS for sending e-mail notifications on alarms and events.
  • Dynamic DNS (DynDNS, No-IP, DNS-O-Matic) and NTP time synchronization.

The device also supports port configuration for HTTP and SNMP, as well as backup/restore of settings and remote firmware update to simplify maintenance. All digital and analog inputs, as well as the RS-485 interface, are fully isolated from the power supply ground, ensuring reliable long-term operation.

Typical applications

The TCW260 is specifically designed for monitoring and recording resource consumption from electricity meters, gas meters, water meters and other measuring devices. Rising energy costs make it essential to perform accurate analysis and optimization at both micro level (individual machine or process) and macro level (entire site or company).

Thanks to its flexible architecture and isolated interfaces, the TCW260 can be added to existing installations without process interruption, when suitable sensors are selected. Beyond energy, it is also suitable for general industrial process monitoring.

Example applications include:

  • Industrial energy monitoring and targeting.
  • Energy cost optimization and load management systems.
  • Energy consumption management for factories, buildings and infrastructures.
  • Remote monitoring of renewable energy power plants.
  • Water and gas consumption analysis and optimization.
  • Building management systems (BMS) and technical facility management.
  • General SCADA and telemetry applications.
  • Protocol conversion – MODBUS RTU to MODBUS TCP.

Data logging and visualization

All monitored parameters can be viewed as numeric values or trend graphs in any standard web browser through the TCW260 web interface. The integrated data logger stores up to 70,000 records, providing a solid basis for energy audits, performance analysis and compliance reporting.
